Taken just an hour apart, this pair of dream-like studies beautifully depicts the transformation of a scene that can come with a change in the light. The first portrait, painted with the delicate pinks of sunrise, shows a lone wooden dinghy in the subdued softness of dawn. By the time the second picture was taken, the sun had touched the sky and water with brilliant blue. The colours of the boat were now bright and bold, as if inviting the viewer into the adventure of the day. I love the contrast between the two shots. How often our view of the world depends on the light with which we see it!
