This is from a series of photographs I shot at Newcastle's famous Nobby's Beach. Taken with my rotating-head Roundshot camera, it is a 240-degree scan that includes both headlands, from the lighthouse on the left to the clubhouse on the right. The unique appearance of the waves is the product of the camera's slow scanning action; as the camera rolled past it captured the waves back-and-forth pull, resulting in some very picturesque scalloped patterns. The hardest part of this shot was trying to get a break between people. It was sunrise and we needed about a four minute scan. So I had to get all those early morning health enthusiasts to run around us, so they wouldn't end up as a blur in the shot! But I love the final effect, with all its light and pattern and colour. It's the sort of print that has an amazing calming effect when you put it on your wall.
