Keeble Cottage was originally built as a fishing lodge in 1942. It probably seemed like a great idea at the time, as Australia was at war. It is a classic Aussie design river stones on a concrete slab built very close to Swampy Plain River where (despite the name) wonderful fishing opportunities abound. Huts like this speak of a time when building permits were not required and you could allow your creativity and ingenuity to flow. This hut is used often by many visitors to the high country. On this particular occasion, stockmen were using it as their base as they mustered wild brumbies. Their saddles have been left out to air after a hard days riding. The open door and fire within invite you to enter and enjoy this restful place.
