A massive Ribbon Gum sheds its skin as part of a yearly ritual of renewal. At its foot lies a tangle of fallen bark, the woody browns richly contrasting with the deep green ferns of the forest floor. It is a scene suffused with life. Who knows what creatures may be scampering through the undergrowth! To me, the symbolism of this photograph is strong. The very shedding of the bark speaks of natures constant regeneration. Mans destructive ways are not always (fortunately!) the end of the story. The rebirth of life through natures cycle of seasons and years gives hope to us all.
