I was precariously balanced on an overhanging tree to get this shot, but it made for an enchanting scene. It looks out upon the low tumbling steps of Cephissus Falls in Tasmania's Pine Valley (in Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park). On either side is the lush growth of ancient forest - the trunks and river banks thick with moss. Some of the trees in this area are several hundred years old. In this view, the river fills the entire foreground, as if to emphasise the importance of water in these temperate rainforest environments. The long exposure of the photograph gives the river a sense of dynamism and movement as it cascades through the stillness of the surrounding forest. There is a wonderful, ageless freshness in places like this. We need to ensure they are preserved forever.
