In this pair of Megapans, the dreamy pastels of sunset contrast boldly with the vivid blues of late afternoon. Taken less than an hour apart on the edge of Port Phillip Bay, the two photographs demonstrate the wonderful transformations of light that can come with the turn of the earth. At evening, the colours are simplified: in the upper shot even the jetty, with its huts and fenced swimming area, appears to meld into the whole. In the daytime shot, however, the contrasts are far greater. The unique characters of the green beach-hut and the low-sprawled timber boatshed are much easier to discern. Even the reflections in the water take on their own shimmering identities. The sun brings many glories to a single scene, if we will only wait and watch.
