In 2009, my Aboriginal friends shared with me their vision to build a Cross on Memory Mountain a place of great cultural and spiritual significance to them. Their vision has finally come to fruition, and they have named this the Forgiveness Cross. They see it as a connection point between heaven and earth a place where people of any faiths or beliefs can come and experience this holy place. Memory Mountain will become the hub of an Indigenous-led tourism precinct, bringing employment opportunities and sustainable income streams to our most disadvantaged Australians. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about Aboriginal culture, traditions, bush tucker and bush medicines. For our Indigenous people, the concept of Walk a While is simple: If you really want to know a person, you must be prepared to walk a while with them. Here is a place where people can walk a while with the local Indigenous people and learn about the importance of connection to country.
