We found these ruins while searching for wild flowers in South Australia but, to our disappointment, the surrounding flowers had not blossomed. Overnight, huge thunderstorms came rolling through, dumping inches of rain, and making the once-dusty main road impassable. For several days we were stranded in Oodnadatta, the nearest town, a hundred kilometres away. When the road finally re-opened we were excited to find that the wild hop flowers had bloomed, adding a splash of vibrant colour to this arid land.
