Storm clouds overhead and two fire-burnt trunks lend this view of Uluru a wonderful sense of drama. Photographed here from the western side, the rock is illumined by a short-lived burst of afternoon sun through the clouds. Not long afterwards, the sky turned totally grey and overcast and the moment was gone. These two desert oaks have been shot by other photographers many times since I first photographed them in 1982. But the recent fire that has blackened their trunks gives them a new, fresh character - as does the unique sky overhead. It is a reminder that nothing on earth remains the same. How rich life is when we embrace its many changes.
