Uluru has countless moods and manifestations. Here I have photographed it from the western side with the sunset behind me. The rock is bathed in deep red ochre and the sky in soft pastel. In the foreground, a lone desert oak adds focus to a sea of earth, shrub and Spinifex. It seems tragic that so many experiences of Uluru are now denied to visitors. Many angles and shots (including this one, taken before the new rules) are now impossible or hopelessly overregulated by park management authorities. In fact the area has now become one of the most restricted places in photographic history. But, as this shot reminds us, Uluru is an icon that deserves to be appreciated from every angle and in every emotion. It is larger than life - a gift from the Creator to all humanity.
