A vast crowd of sunflowers greets the rising sun, in a scene as bold as a classic Van Gogh. The timing of my visit to Kansas had been carefully planned to coincide with the peak blooming season. You can imagine my disappointment when I arrived and found the state's crop had flowered two weeks early. But I didn't t give up, and my inquiries led me to this farm. A tornado had destroyed the farmer's first crop, and so he had replanted. This spectacular field of yellow was the result - countless sun-bright heads stretching as far as the eye could see. It was a lesson to all who saw it that it's never too late to start over.
