This photograph was a chance to immortalize the passing of a rainforest giant. For decades this tree had stood tall among the lichen-fringed creepers - one element in an ecosystem of almost unbelievable complexity. Amongst all the plants of the forest, this was one of the "great ones". Yet its last hour came, perhaps with a lightning strike or a monstrous gust of wind. For me this giant is a symbol of life itself. At some point we too will pass away. The important question is: will we stand strong and tall in our generation until that final day?
