Glowing red as embers in the days first light, these massive rockforms are one of America s greatest natural wonders. Here they rise Titan-like from a vast plain. Or perhaps they are more like an ancient red city of ruined turrets and spires? The metaphors are many. To the local Navaho people this area is rich in significance and legend. Often in my home country of Australia I have walked with the Aboriginal people through their desert homelands. With the Navaho I felt the same sort of link with the land. How much we can learn when we quieten ourselves for a while, listening to those who have lived in a place so long.
