The contrast between the ethereal pink light and the surrounding shadows gives this scene an incredible sense of otherworldly presence. I had been told that sunset was the best time to photograph this location (St. Mary Lake in Glacier National Park), but for some reason I felt to try for a sunrise shot. It was very dark when I first arrived. All I could see were the craggy outlines of the mountains. But then, as the sun began to touch the sky with light, the clouds were suddenly painted with a beautiful pink-apricot radiance. It was so unusual for a sunrise. I just sat there in awe of God s handiwork, watching the scene evolve in front of me. All I had to do was click the shutter.
