There is something quite mystical about the great pyramids of Giza. And sunrise is probably the best time to photograph them, when there are very few people around. Here, I wanted to capture a simple, but highly detailed image of these stunning icons. So I shot a 5-image stitch, using an 85 mm lens to help compress the depth in the scene. This is the advantage of using a real camera over a mobile phone: you have quality choices of different focal length lenses. I used my Lumix S1R in high res mode and the stitched print file is over 1.7 GB, with astounding detail. You can see every stone in the pyramids. If you re going to take photos, they should be the highest possible quality. Why have pyramids lasted so long? They were built to last, from materials that have stood the test of time.
