I visited Vernazza on a few occasions, looking for the best angles and trying to determine the best time to shoot it. I made a few earlier attempts, but the light wasn't t very dramatic. Often the picturesque Cinque Terre towns look quite tranquil, giving the impression they are peaceful little seaside resorts. But they have a lot of wild weather thrust at them which must test their stability. Obviously they are solidly built, to be able to withstand harsh weather conditions. On this particular afternoon, the seas were huge and I love the drama of the waves crashing against the cliffs. I was precariously perched on the cliff edge, with a rope securing me to a solid bench behind, just in case the ground where I was standing gave way. To achieve this image, I took multiple shots and stitched them together. I had to wait patiently for the different wave patterns, to ensure the shots would join up properly. It took quite a few attempts, but fortunately this one worked.
