The native name for Victoria Falls means "The Smoke That Thunders" is so fitting because the Falls are visible from miles away due to the massive clouds of mist that rise from it. Yet the mist is the thing that makes it hardest to see in its fullness. When I arrived at Victoria Falls the whole area was shrouded in mist - as is so often the case - and it didn't t look like I was going to be able to get a worthwhile shot. I set up my camera anyway, under a plastic raincoat to protect it from the all-pervading vapor. As the sun began to rise behind the distant mountain, a gentle wind pushed the mist away for a brief moment and I was able to capture the curtain of the waterfall in all its glory. This brilliant display only lasted for a few minutes before we were once again engulfed in the cloud of mist caused by the falling water.
