Who would think it possible? Deep in the Great Southern Ocean, on the cold, misty desolation that is Macquarie Island, a large colony of penguins not only survives but thrives. Although this shot was taken in summer, the day was wild and bitterly cold. We had a lengthy wait for just a bit of sunlight to break through and illuminate this scene. Most of the penguins here are Royal Penguins, though one or two of the larger King Penguins can also be seen. In the mid-ground, on the right, is a sprawling group of huge elephant seals. The waters here must be teeming with food to support such a vast assembly of creatures. How wonderful is the abundance of life in our world!

Every effort has been made on this Gallery site to accurately represent the vibrant colours of Ken’s images. However, due to differences in computer screens and certain other variations, the images here should only to be taken as a guide.
The colour and sharpness of a finished Ken Duncan Limited Edition Print are far superior to what can be presented on a small screen.
