This shot was taken from a hide at Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana. Once youre in the hide - an old shipping container which has been sunk into the ground - the animals cant see you. You lie in wait, down there at water level, waiting to see what comes to the waterhole. On this afternoon, we had been there quite a while, but no big game had come. A few smaller animals had ventured near, but they were quite skittish and hard to photograph. Some of the others in our group wanted to leave, but I said we should stay until the sun had completely set. Just before sunset, a big herd of elephants lumbered in for a drink - but there were too many of them. I had to wait for that magical moment when we could get separation between the animals. And when that finally happened, this is the magical shot I got.
