The colourful bathing huts of Brighton Beach have become one of Melbournes most famous tourist icons. In this shot I wanted to try a different angle from the norm, photographing them from the back instead. I was therefore able to incorporate the sea into the composition, giving more of a sense of the total environment. I stood on my camera case for this shot, which allowed a good separation between the huts roofs and the horizon line of the sea. Such separation is often important in photography as it gives a greater sense of depth to a picture. In this photograph, I loved how I was also able to capture just a hint of a multi-coloured umbrella (poking its head over the second hut!) as well as a cloud sailing by like a battleship on the horizon.
