Discovered by accident off Sydneys Bronte Beach, this is a sunrise shot with a difference. Here, the predictable sun over the horizon view is abandoned in favour of a dreamier study of sea and rocks. All that was required was a tilt downwards of the lens and a willingness to capture something unique. The effect is mesmerizing. The sun illuminates even though it is not seen, and the waves roll in like wisps of sea mist. Even the tiniest details of rock are here given form and substance by the rising sun, their profiles bathed in golden light. How easily this shot could have been missed altogether. So often we are dazzled by the obvious and fail to notice the simple and delightful. Yet it is in subtlety that the deepest beauty is often found.
