The Chute is at the end of Hancock Gorge as it descends down into Junction Pool, place where four gorges meet. When I found this location many years ago, there were no anchor points and I knew one slip could have been my last. So I was pleased this time to go in with ropes and secure anchor points. (Its amazing how much less stressful life is when you know you are secure!) But I wondered why our guide insisted we all wear helmets. Then, while we waited to take photos, a rock crashed down, hit one of our guys on the head, knocked him down and left a huge gash on his helmet. Fortunately he was uninjured, and we all had a whole new appreciation for helmets. I love the timing of this shot. The rich, late afternoon light really brings to life the reds and blue of the banded sedimentary rock. It was wonderful to be able to shoot this location on my new digital camera.
