Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Island can definitely be counted among the true wonders of our natural world. It is one of the most beautiful beaches anywhere on our planet. Here you see spectacular patterns in the sand and water at low tide in the area of Hill Inlet. Whitsunday Island is a national park and hundreds of tourists visit this idyllic location daily. But now, as the day draws towards its close, the visitors have all left and the place is returned to its pristine glory. The sand in this area, being almost pure silica, is very white and appears like molten silver in the glow of twilight. To get this shot, I chartered a boat to take me out to Whitsunday Island and after we left the shelter of the inlet, we had to endure some raging seas with huge swells to return to our base on Hamilton Island.
