"What a wonderful bird is the pelican;
its beak can hold more than its belly can."

I first heard this rhyme when I was a child and I used to repeat it often to my daughter when she was very young. I am fascinated by the way these pelicans have worked out that all the fishermen come into the landing here to clean their fish, so it's an easy way for them to get a feed. They strut around defining their pecking order as they wait for the fishermen to come and throw them a tidbit. This shot was taken at Terrigal Haven, but it could be anywhere. To me, pelicans are beautiful, graceful birds, and here they remind me of a group of friends chatting and hanging out at the beach.
