There are many pockets of paradise in the Kimberley. This is just one of them: a watercourse swollen by the rains, with a stepped waterfall and a deep, cool pool. The rocks are ancient, washed with ochred colour. The vegetation is a burst of green after the recent downpours of the wet season. We had to walk a long way to reach these falls, but it was more than worth it. This was pristine wilderness, with not another soul in sight (and it was even free from crocodiles!). The friend I was with swam up to sit on a rock in front of the falls, to give some sense of scale to the scene. I loved the yellow-ochre rock in the foreground here which contrasted so beautifully with the reds and oranges of other stones and the blue reflected wash of the water. It was all so wonderfully idyllic.
