Refuge Cove is well named. Located on Wilsons Promontory, it provides a wonderful haven for yachts before or after they weather the perils of the Tasman Sea. Like many other visitors, we too arrived here by yacht. It was many years ago - in mid January 1991 - and it proved to be a surreal experience. While enjoying the scenery of this primitive wilderness, the first news broke of America's massive attack against Iraq in the first Gulf War. At the time, no-one really knew what invading Iraq would mean, and the whole world seemed in an uproar. But here, far away in Refuge Cove, there was a timeless, peace-filled beauty. It gave us hope that sanity would again prevail.
