We were taking photos over Lake Eyre in a light plane, with the door open. It was a surreal experience because our special noise-cancelling earphones, reduced the sound of the plane to a soft hum, while the kaleidoscope of the landscape below us was continually changing shape, form and colours. The most difficult thing was to try and isolate the different characteristics this lake presents. From the air, I loved the textures and the intricate patterns of this part of the lake. And as soon as I saw this multi-coloured separating line, caused by the ebb and flow of water and salts within the landscape, I knew I had the basis for a beautiful composition. The icing on the cake for me was the amazing mosaic-like texture of the now parched land. Earth certainly is an evolving artwork. We just need to look beyond the grandeur and connect with the heart.
