I often think of a scene I would love to photograph but for various reasons, just dont get around to it. For years, I was fascinated by the designs created by Kimberley rivers as they penetrate the surrounding flood plains. On this trip, I was almost ready to head home, but I decided to stop procrastinating. So I spent an extra day in Derby, especially to capture these stunning patterns. This photo was taken from a helicopter above King Sound, near Derby. King Sound is famous for its massive tidal changes. When the tide goes out, it looks like the whole ocean is empty. I love the textures created by the combinations of soil and the salt deposited after huge tides. As soon as I saw this image on my computer screen, the title, Tree of Life, immediately came to me. It looks to me like a tree and water is what brings life to all creation.
