I was keen to return to the El Chaltn area with its spectacular scenery. Resolving not to fall into the trap of shooting scenes I had captured previously, I sought out new angles with many layers, to pay respect to the grandeur of the region. I had seen Chorrillo del Salto Falls at sunset, but I felt sunrise would be a better time to capture this scene. Most of the photographers in our group decided on other locations for sunrise, so only a couple of us witnessed this scene unfold. We were rewarded with colours far more dramatic than the previous evening. The soft light coming over our shoulders seemed to open up the shadows and capture every nuance of colour, even in the water. Then for its crescendo, the sun struck the massif of Fitz Roy as if to say, Good morning. The new day has begun. Photography is all about light and, in certain conditions, dramatic light paints us a masterpiece on an earthen canvas.
