Cheetahs can run very fast, but only over a short distance. On this particular day, in Mashatu Game Reserve, Botswana, we had the choice of going to photograph a pride of lions who could be counted on to be in a particular place, or going in search of this family of cheetahs who were thought to be in a certain area. We opted to seek out the cheetahs. For quite a while we saw nothing at all, then as we came around a corner, there they were. But they were in the bush. Quite suddenly they came out of the bushes and bounded up on top of this rock, which was perfect. Initially there were 5 of them, but that was too many for me, so I was thrilled when one jumped down and left this perfect composition. Four watchmen, sitting on a vantage point, keeping an eye out to make sure nothing's watching them.
