A boat is by far the best way to get around the dense wetland of the Pantanal. Indeed, it is virtually the only way. But you still have to be very careful. The area is teeming with wildlife, including giant snakes, crocodiles and the extremely well camouflaged Jaguar.
The Jaguars in this area are renowned for their stealth and for being shy and elusive. But they often come down to the riverbanks in search of prey or just to sun themselves in the early morn
ing and late afternoon. We were fortunate to spot this beauty peering out at as through the undergrowth. We had to get close to find an angle through the foliage, ever conscious that she could jump into the boat and attack without notice.
Here, the jaguar just looks very contented, looking right at me, saying I See You!
