The Fitzroy River is depicted here meandering with dry season docility. But in the wet season it rises to flood the surrounding sandy banks, reaching ten metres up the cliffs of Geikie Gorge. Thundering down the watercourse, it eradicates any impression people may have left. The limestone formations here are honeycombed with wonderful caves and sculptures and their surfaces can be razor sharp to walk on. So it was an interesting climb in the dark with a full load of camera gear to get this sunrise over the Gorge.
