Hearing from some friends about a wonderful waterfall in a remote Kimberley coast gorge, we engaged a guide and set out to find it. But arriving here, we were mystified. It was not at all what we were expecting. We had to swim into the gorge and float our camera gear in (in waterproof cases). Once there, though, it was one of the most amazing locations I had ever seen. The rock colours were wonderfully rich, the waterfall was a beautiful thread of white, and the light danced upon the water of the pool with countless shimmering sparkles, like an expanse of sapphires. When we returned, we were informed that we had obviously ended up in the wrong place! But how glad I was. This was the sort of scene photographers usually only dream of: a hidden sanctum where colours, light and rock coalesced to form a stunning natural treasure.
