The glory of Karijini National Park lies in its hidden gorges, carved through the red rock of the Pilbara by ancient flowing streams. Here at Joffre Gorge, a white line of water curves down the multi-layered rockface to the sandy floor below. An elongated pool dances with greens, yellows and browns. The coolness of the water contrasts boldly with the arid rock of the surrounding landscape. I chose a vertical format for this shot because It'so beautifully captured the length of the narrow chasm. To me, it encapsulates the journey from the rugged scrubland into the refuge of the gently watered gorge.
