Early morning paints the domes of Purnululu with gold-red ochre, their forms thrown into relief by the inky recesses that remain in darkness. This photo was taken just half an hour after sunrise, when there was still a beautiful warmth in the light, and long shadows. The pools of Piccaninny Creek were as still as a mirror. How different this location is in the midst of the wet season, when floods thunder and roar down the watercourses. At the height of the dry, the pools disappear altogether. But here the scene is captured in mid season, when the majesty of the domes is wonderfully reflected by the waters at their base.
